What to Expect on Your Training Day at WSL Training Academy
If you have booked a plant operator course with WSL Training Academy, here is everything you need to know before you arrive. We want you to feel confident and prepared so you can make the most of your training day.
Before You Arrive
- Bring a valid form of photo ID (driving licence or passport)
- Wear appropriate clothing – sturdy footwear (steel toe-cap boots recommended), work trousers, and a high-visibility vest if you have one (we can provide)
- Have your booking confirmation ready
- Arrive 15 minutes before your course start time (training begins at 8:00am)
On Arrival
When you arrive at Black Barn, Risborough Road, Aston Sandford, Aylesbury HP17 8NG, our team will welcome you, complete your registration, and introduce you to your instructor for the day. Parking is available on site.
The Training Day Structure
Most courses follow a similar structure:
- Morning theory session – Classroom-based introduction covering machine operation, health and safety, pre-use checks, and operating principles
- Practical demonstration – Your instructor demonstrates safe machine operation techniques
- Hands-on practice – You get behind the controls under close instructor supervision
- Assessment – Practical skills assessment to the NPORS or CPCS standard
What Our Instructors Expect From You
No previous experience is necessary for most of our courses. You will need to demonstrate that you can follow instructions, operate the machine safely, and understand the key risks involved. Our instructors are here to teach, not to catch you out.
After Your Course
Once you have successfully completed your assessment, your operator card application will be submitted. Cards are typically issued within a few weeks of your assessment date.
